Yeah it's pretty automatic...though my poops are 97.3% of the time "dry wipeless" ones. It's rare there is any residue left on the paper when wiped...generally only if I have a fatty meal or something that causes 'the slops'...but again that's rare these days, usually it's a dry solid deposit that only takes 1 wipe and that to be honest isn't necessary based on the residue left.
My pooping schedule has also changed significantly this past 10yrs...I poop maybe 3 times a week whereas it used to be daily.
