   It’s interesting to think about but it’s hard to imagine anything that would satisfy common definitions of “life” that wouldn’t be perceptible. E.g. consumption of energy to preserve structure. I mean that’s not to say we could definitely immediately identify alien life through a telescope or whatever, just that if you imagine alien life that’s microscopic, or composed of gas, or anything else that would make it difficult for us to perceive, it’s hard to imagine that being “alive” without it having energy requirements, and the energy intake process being, at some level, observable.

   i doubt tge energy intakes of micro organisms that harness energy from decaying radioactive materials can be observeable from a far.
