The pyramids used to be power stations for the ships of the aliens who lived here. They were covered in conducting materials, which have long been looted, and there was a capstone on top, which the alien ship used to connect to the charging port.

Apparitions arenβt aliens, they are, so to speak, shreds and fragments of other worlds, actually the first beginnings of them.
There is, of course, no reason why a well adjusted healthy man should see them, because a well adjusted healthy man is mainly a being of this earth, and therefore for completeness and order he must live only this earthly life.
But as soon as he falls ill, mentally or physically, as soon as the normal earthly state of the organism is disturbed, the possibility of another world begins to appear, and as the illness increases, so do the contacts with the other world, so that at the moment of a man's death he enters fully into that world.

The aliens are able to program the Matrix directly in order to conjure up any kind of creature they wish into reality. They do it exactly like a programmer going into a program and adding code to create functions. The aliens have millions and millions of years of technological experience, and they've learned how to manipulate the Matrix and accomplish whatever feats they want at will, within the parameters of their access level.

There are two warring factions, one good, the other evil, but all are from the same source. The same race of beings. They were all together until 1914, which is the year the evil ones were thrown out of their government and stripped of their governmental positions, whereupon they were marooned here in the vicinity of the Earth by the Creator himself, awaiting verdicts and sentences.
