if you look at the locations of last night's strikes,
it stands to reason that the S-300s are deployed near Lviv and attempted to defend against the attacks there or at Kovel but missed and their munitions just flew north ballistically

US isn't going to do anything direct and the Polacks have been careful to say it was a 'Russian-made missile' but not that it was a cruise missile or similar

also, given how many belters are directly fighting on the ground in the Ukraine I don't really see what else they can do to escalate without article 5'ing it.
According to Russian radio intercepts and captured Ukrainian soldiers, something like 70% of the fighting force in some regions is Polish or Latvian, and they just use the Ukrainian draftees as a shield
