So, Surovikin said that the most appropriate option for actions in the zone of a special military operation is to organize defense along the barrier line of the Dnieper.

Looks like they're even abandoning Kherson in order to use the Dniepr as a natural defence. -

maybe - I've seen allusions to that recently in a bunch of Russian military channels, but also keep in mind that both sides have spent the last month or so trying to outbluff each other in that region. Russians have removed flags and evacuated municipal buildings while hiding military units, Ukrainians have openly concentrated forces but not attacked etc. -

Actually no, he gives surprisingly clearheaded reasons. This is probably just what it looks like:I fully agree with Mr. Prigozhin's opinion on Surovikin's decision. Yevgeny Viktorovich very accurately noted that Surovikin saved a thousand soldiers who were in actual encirclement.
After weighing all the pros and cons, General Surovikin made a difficult but right choice between senseless sacrifices for the sake of loud statements and saving the priceless lives of soldiers.
Kherson is a very difficult area without the possibility of a stable regular supply of ammunition and the formation of a strong, reliable rear. Why was this not done from the first days of the special operation? This is another question. But in this difficult situation, the general acted wisely and far-sightedly - he evacuated the civilian population and ordered a regrouping.
So there is no need to talk about the "surrender" of Kherson. "Surrender" together with the fighters. And Surovikin protects the soldier and takes a more advantageous strategic position - convenient, safe.
Everyone knew from the very first days of the special operation that Kherson was a difficult combat territory. The soldiers of my units also reported that it was very difficult to fight in this area. Yes, it can be kept, it is possible to organize at least some supply of ammunition, but the cost will be numerous human lives. And this forecast does not suit us.
Therefore, I believe that Surovikin acted like a real military general, not afraid of criticism.
He is responsible for the people. He sees better.
Their primary concern is people, not territory, and west Kherson is simply too difficult to defend with the forces they have in the region.
If they don't have the capacity to push the AFU out, they're slowly bleeding manpower for no reason, regardless of whether they can maintain favourable casualty rates.
Then there's also the ever-present threat of the dam being destroyed, which would not only cut off supply lines and make it impossible to fight, it'd wash away half a city they'd hoped to keep after the war ends.
My guess would be that they're going to bunker down for the next month or so (not just at Kherson but most regions) and wait for the remainder of the 300k reserves to refresh the existing fighters, then make a move on Nikolaev and try to come back to Kherson later -
