^It almost seems like you're rooting for him to fail and so then you can jump up and say "haha! Told ya so!" which I don't really understand the motivation behind that really..I wish even my enemies the best because having something to prove is a lost cause you will come to find out...

  2. Humans are not logical creatures. It's not just about me. We'd be willing to adopt if it came down to it, it's not about any evolutionary bullshit with propagating genes. Is that morally acceptable to you?

I know I am/was a terrible person. (Is that like being an alcoholic, once you become one you are one forever?) I have shared a lot of things that most people in their right mind would do anything to hide. I'm pretty much an open book, but please keep my wife out of this. Probably nothing I can do will change the way people I have hurt in the past see me, but I can try my damnedest to right wrongs and keep them from happening again. I'm not on some philosophical bullshit. I just realized that you get out of life what you put in. If you are constantly a negative, shitty person, how can one expect anything more in return?

Well, alright, why would I have anything against adoption? Edited my post as well.

I have a pretty damn good reason for absolutely abhorring the creation of life, though. There are so many solid philosophical arguments on it in the field of existentialism, few people have any idea of just how bad it is.

  4. Thank you.

Have you been reading the news today? Checked Reddit? I mean, my god, think of future projections, what the world is expected to be like in a few decades. Think of how much you suffered in your own life. Why would anyone want to bring a child into this awful awful world, particularly if you have a history of severe mental illness.

Last thing I'm saying on it, promise.

But, really, the political news today, and maybe yesterday, has just been absurd. I do not want to live on this world anymore. I want out.
  6. Why don't people adopt if they want kids so bad
  7. Any pregnancy is a roll of the dice. About half of all pregnancies are miscarried before the woman even knows she is pregnant. 10% of known pregnancies are miscarried. All kinds of genetic disorders crop up seemingly out of nowhere. I also have a family history of depression, cancer, stroke/heart attacks, CHF, and COPD/asthma. Until we can genetically program a fetus, it's impossible to know the outcome of a pregnancy, yet people will always want kids in the meantime.

I feel like your line of thinking is dangerously close to eugenics, which I'm sure you're a fan of. I'm going to invoke Godwin's Law and just call you Hitler right now.

Besides the evolutionary drive to propagate your genes, people want to nurture something that they created, that they are a part of genetically rather than be a cuckold.

Oh man, these arguments are so bad. Do whatever you want, I'm under no illusion that the overwhelming majority of people will ever listen to reason. Human beings have an incredible capacity for rationalization. It's really no different than being a fundamentalist Christian.

It's things like this that made me lapse into severe alcoholism and stop caring about myself. Pretty tempted to get back to it, TBH, if only it was more sustainable. Maybe I'll just become a benzo addict instead, pure powder is pretty cheap.

I accept having children is selfish. But, since a parent/child relationship is the least voluntary relationship between two human beings i think it is a moral imperative to make sure you have the self-knowledge, resources and mental capacity to provide the best possible childhood you can. We are not destined to repeat the past as long as we understand it and make a conscious effort to do better. Suppose as parent you did everything perfectly and your child is happy and mentally healthy because of it. Doesn't the fact that your child is happy and alive outweigh the morally "neutral" state of not having had children in the first time? Besides, life is shit, and this is true most of the time but i am happy i got to experience it as a human being, even if my conception was selfish and the Universe simply doesn't give a shit.

  12. So people will contribute to overpopulation and create another child instead of helping one in need that's already here because "muh genes"

Every time that word is misused a newborn kitten is tortured with a soldering iron.

Interestingly this seems to just now be starting to come back. I wonder if it's the dextromethorphan still having a small effect on my brain or if it's just coincidence or something else I've taken

Edited. Dammit Lanny, some of these wordenhancements are funny but that one is fucking retarded and makes actual dextromethorphan-related discussion impossible for those unaware of the wordenhancement.

I at least want to hold out long enough to write an extensive paper titled something along the lines of: Why people die by suicide: A personal account of what some experience before choosing death.

I feel I’ve read enough, such an absurd amount after locking myself away with this extreme obsessive compulsion, to be able to address every argument.

You can be intelligent and well read enough to the point where it begins to work against you. You can’t assume suicide isn’t capable of being a rational response.

Sophie, do you still have your guide on the serotonin subreceptors and their basic function? I need it as basic reference for my theory that serotonin is primarily involved in the regulation of social behavior/activity and the downstream effects it causes. Just to refresh my memory.
