eventually the river had risen up again.
however the population back then was like 400 million people world wide and there is 8 Billion now. So you're adding a shitload of more humans in which wouldn't put a dent on fresh water even with 17 times the human species in existance. it's the fact we pump water to our toilets and lawns and trees and golf courses and so on. so you take a 400-year drought and you add human technology of wasting water and now we might have a problem trying to replenish it.
Also they didn't have Nukes 400 years ago. So End Times today is far more realistic now.
Cycles are normal but the comeback may not be so easy with humans being selfish human beings. -

the majority of society lives on the coast. much of the sewer water going to treatment plants gets pumped out into the oceans.
the golf courses and lawns and business park trees and this and that goes into the ground. groundwater yes but much of it is vaporized into the sky and that rain does dump out into the oceans. while the evaporation of Oceans removes salt and turns it into fresh water for land. however, they're saying the jetstreams are changing directions and not giving as much water during rainy seasons back onto land. -

Someone killed the desalinization plant because they didn't get in on the contract money or kickbacks or some bullshit. so they had environmentalists say it will harm the fish because it will pull the salt out of the water. but may then put the salt back making it too salty otr some shit. it would be a tiny area affected.
if you built like 10 of these, they said it would only offer 3% fresh water and cost too much to build. but clearly it's who got the contract.
