"At its peak, the British empire controlled 35.5M km^2. (35.5 million square kilometres). That’s equivalent to 13.7M square miles. In other words, just under 24% of Earth total land area, that is, the Earth has a total land area of just under 149M km^2 or 57.5 square miles!"
Throw the oceans on top of that which the British also dominated and you are at 3/4 of the Earth's surface. -
