I was thinking about making an app that you would run on two phones. Each would send SMS messages back and forth. There would be some coded way of doing this, which would be within the app.

There would be an alarm that would go off if one did not receive a text within a certain time frame.

    What do you think?

there would be entirely too much vibrating and sound effects from the message notifications, i dont see how this racket could be overlooked.

User was banned for saying the taboo phrase "tire"!
The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire!

I keep my phone on silent. There are other ways this can be done.

    retarded.

not receiving smses is not a valid proof of being cloned.

No, but it would just be an alert. If you were out of area, you would know it's likely a false alarm.

    What else could be done?

nothing can be done on users part to detect clonned sims.

i think both phone would ring at the same time until one of them is picked up.

I disagree. My app idea could help alert a victim. I only survived because I was on top of things. A lot of people get destroyed.

    no it wont.

the only reason you survived because they tried to overtake your numbers. had they just clone your number and sit quitely and listening in you'd never realize youve been cloned.

I'm specifically talking about a sim-swap attack, as title displays.

If so, then they wouldn't be able to do this...

ok, so your app will only let its user know only AFTER their sim has been hijacked.

Yes. It would be some type of alert/alarm. Not a big deal if there is a false alarm.

why not just give a 3-rings miss call.

sms takes money, miss calls are free.

are you still into android coding? you can query the service provider for your service number without making calls or sending messages

    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/2480288/programmatically-obtain-the-phone-number-of-the-android-phone

that said I've never heard of someone being attacked in such a way so it doesn't really seem worthwhile

    Yes, I make Android apps.

I got sim-swapped twice in less than a year.

I think the same phone number may get returned even if the service is switched. My old phones still display my phone number. Either way I'll likely look into it this weekend.

I'm just going to allow permissions to turn volume up and phone off silent and then have an alarm.

Burner phones seem to work for me. More to the point, phone stuff is not my field so i wanted to ask how swappers get the info they need to execute a sim swap. Are there particular targets that are high value or in demand as it were?
