2022-08-11 at 3:21 PM UTCSpeedy is right on this one...School is nothing more than a debt trap...degrees don't mean shit these days, every mother finger has one...speaking as a hirer and firer I take pretty much no notice of a person scholastic record when selecting people. In fact the more I hear about some idiot being 100k in debt for some dumb schooling when they could have been working, earning and gaining much more valuable experience the less likely I'd be to hire that person.
4yrs of school and 30yrs of debt is NOT > than natural intelligence and actual job experience.
It's another trap society has created to keep the masses in line and in debt.
...unless you're a doctor sticking his finger up my ass..then you better have been to school.
ETA: If you've ever interacted with todays generation of school teachers you'd also know how fucking dumb 9/10 of them are too...Jesus.. -

2022-08-11 at 3:46 PM UTCBesides the jobs that actually require a formal degree etc (like doctors, nurses etc)...you can teach yourself most everything else, you don't need to pay someone thousands of dollars for a dumb piece of paper at the end of it.
I taught myself electronics by just tinkering, that's now a big part of my job and I've designed boards for our companies products (even though its not really part of my job which is operations manager), the top selling product we sell has my board design in it...the most schooling I had on that subject was a $60 one day surface mount soldering class lol...everything else was reading and doing.
We recently had a problem where we wanted to upgrade the features of an existing board/product without spending $$$ on redesigning the whole board...we have an outside Electronics Engineer who couldn't come up with a good solution...I did...in the form of $6 daughter board that plugs into one of the existing IC sockets...in his words "Genius idea".../smug.
You don't need to go to school to learn shit. -

Don’t forget your cover letter:To whom it may concern,
My name is Maciej Duraj and I am a Chico State journalism (news-ed bachelors) graduate with a passion in reporting, technology, and the Web. I am looking for positions in writing, reporting, public relations or online media. I have written various stories ranging from human interest to investigative reporting, however most of my career I focused on tech coverage and have professional experience since 2010. Some of the media and publications I contributed to includes Forbes as a contributor, Pluralsight, PC World/Macworld, Tech Times, Apple Magazine, TouchArcade and Appadvice.com.
I generally focus on emerging technology and applications. However, I also covered social networking, marketing, enterprise along with B2B computing, the IT sector, online education, and other topics. News and feature stories are my bread and butter, but have done previews, reviews of software and hardware like smartphones, interviews and event coverage, how-to guides, and more. From time to time I also write press releases about new iPhone apps as well as other topics, such as robotic innovation, for various PR firms.
I have extensive experience in a variety of writing styles including APA style, newsroom AP style, and am familiar with WordPress as well as basic HTML. I have experience in the traditional newsroom as well as the startup scene (I completed a writing internship at Palo Alto Weekly in spring ’10 and worked with various startups in-house). I am familiar with online content and SEO skills. I also have access to both Mac and Windows platforms and my computing skills include Microsoft Word, Excel, Photoshop, Audacity, PowerPoint, video editing and digital-film production.
I was originally born in Poland and came to the U.S. when I was a 9. Most of my relatives are still in Poland and I often visit them. I speak and write Polish fluently and I know some German and Spanish. My grandmother is a retired librarian from Poland and when I was a young boy I went to visit her daily from a school across the street. This began my interest in the written word and coverage that gets to the bottom of an issue objectively. Libraries are constantly changing as information systems and programs are improving.
Ever since trying a journalism class in Pasadena City College I fell in love with the field of the written word and in my ability to present information from though to paper. Learning, exploring, and finding out about different cultures have always been fascinating to me and I think that comes from my multicultural background. I really enjoy the art of interviewing and sitting with someone to get their take on particular issues.
There are always ways to improve as a writer and I think writing is an art form. Depending on the story and subject there is also a style that fits the writing best. I enjoy writing feature stories a lot because they deal with an issue or subject in depth. I also enjoy writing about my experiences: whether it is travel, sports, or things I’ve accomplished.
We should always strive to look at things from various points of views. Journalists and writers have always been vital to society but this is especially true today in this fast-paced and changing landscape. However, I am a multimedia journalist and gay porn as well as art are my passions and things I am continuing to improve as skillsets. With today’s high-tech world, computer skills are also a must and multimedia is a vital part of our lives. I hope you will consider me for the position and I look forward to hearing back from you.
Sincerely, Maciej Duraj -

The interview is critical, I as well as most people can tell when talking to someone if they are smart/intelligent...that has absolutely nothing to do with if they've been to college or not..going to college does NOT make you smart or intelligent
...it simply imbues you with some knowledge on a particular subject..knowledge which again...you can teach yourself without spending 30,40,50k on asking some liberal pansy for the information. -

sounds like your using emotions rather than experiences to guide your management. -

Someone didn't read or understand what I said ...schooling ISN'T experience. I hire based on experience and intellect...not a piece of paper that says "I'm too dumb to teach myself" -
2022-08-11 at 4:27 PM UTCAll I want is something to focus on outside of work and I've got something in mind that may be a start.

Every journey begins with that first step. You're obviously quite handy when it comes to fixing and repairing and appear to enjoy it...You hate most of the jobs you've had or don't feel fulfilled by them...so then perhaps think longer term while you're still young and down the road opening your own Handyman business.
If that's what you like doing get some experience doing that...sure the money might be less at first but again...long term you'd be doing something you like and working towards your own business.
10yrs from now you might have a van with "Fona's fix it all" on the side...building/plumbing/decorating. -
