Vice City is worse than I remember

  1. #1
I know it's incredibly overrated and not nearly as good as people make it out to seem but I don't remember it being this bad

I enjoyed it a bit back when it came out, mostly because these types of games were still brand new and rare back then

So anyways, this game is way too fucking short ... like goddamn I don't remember it being this short
The game world is really boring too

But... But .. Muh PS2!! Muh nostalgia goggles! muh best decade!

Vice city was my first GTA game, I was too young to figure out how to do the story missions so I just murdered people, did cheats and drive cars.

you had to pass the controller if you died. When I got my own copy years later I did the full story and it was okay

I think I had more fun playing it when I was too young to care about "beating it"

Saints row has better mission structure

Vice City needs a proper remake, not another shitty remastered or port. The game shows its age in a lot of aspects. Same thing with San Andreas tbh but San Andreas has enough depth on its own that you can get past it in short time

cracking out about older games and criticizing them seems like the most pointless thing a person could do

Nah. It's fun to discuss old games.

In fact trying to invalidate someone else's entertainment is way more pointless.

discussing them is one thing but the criticism is weird, like yeah older games are less "polished" than modern AAA titles but saying OH MAN THESE POLYGONS LOOK SO BAD AND DIDNT AGE WELL AT ALL!

like yeah? it's an old game of course it will be a bit rough around the edges. Magnifying the flaws in older games and saying stuff like "maybe it never was as good as we thought" like what the fuck kinda head trip is this

I don't see how GTA vice city would be any more or less "boring" than NES era games or Anything else. IT's a fine game JUST FINE not boring jsut old

Well that's the interesting part though, it wasn't considered rough around the edges back in the day but the reason wasn't the polycount, it was that conventions we're different.

For example one thing I noticed while playing games from around the time of Thief 1, Project IGI etc is that nowadays most games have extremely "streamlined" input design that is optimized for controllers. Whereas back in the day PC games just had 1 dedicated button per everything. This has kind of lead to a handful of common design conventions for games, where the mechanics might feel different but generally most games have the same basic "feel" and breadth of options.

In some ways that's a good thing (you pick up any 3rd person shooter, you will likely know how to play it). In others it sucks (every game feels somewhat limited and the same).

That's what I really like about old games with some level of what's now considered jank or extravagant design, they really feel like playing a whole new game.

What is the cut off point for nostalgia gaming for you. Anything up to 2010?

The uncertain, easily scared x-ist eterni-cuck is scared by the self confident gayming posture of the correctly educated trve MOON PERSON console modus operandi.
