It seemed tragic because he was fighting to stay alive for me. The grief is because I don’t think I’ll find anyone as decent as him or so similar to myself, I’m alone, and there’s guilt.

Take music for instance, I don't like music that isn't gutter-quality violent drill rap. But I know all about emocore from 2004-2012 because of my ex who really enjoyed shit like The Used & Paramore & Hawthorne Heights. When I stopped being with her, I reverted to my own musical tastes.
But the point being is if you love someone, you do things that make them happy, not because you enjoy them, but because you enjoy sharing something with them that they feel deeply about.
That level of interpersonal connection maybe difficult for you to grasp as an person with autism but if you give it some effort maybe you can see how most people develop deep emotional bonds and how that effects their behavior. You can defeat autism through self awareness, but drinking vodka and living in a bubble of self described contentment won't get you there. -
