So I have been studying music theory

I figure if I ever want to know how to make songs like Skinny Puppy I'll need to know some basics such as chord progressions, scales and notation.
I haven't been studying too much but I actually know a lot more now than I did in the past.

Here is what I made in LMMS recently

one of my friends said it sounds like a broken down arcade machine

Once I have a grasp on the basic concepts of theory I'm going to use that knowledge to make Skinny Puppy style electro-industrial with anime samples and lots of noise.

I took music theory in high-school and took one class in college for it

It helped my playing a bit but I already played by ear and used a lot of theory just by using my ear, but it really helped me connect what I was playing and have a better understanding of theory. It helped me connect different scales and find related ones

Pentatonic scales all day. Along with some minor/major scales...all you really need imo. But I'm far from a perfectionist guitar player....just went through periods over the last 15 years where I'd focus and really work on it.

This dude knows what he's talking about.

When I look at my bass or guitars neck I see squares that connect notes in scale...mostly pentatonic...just from practicing and playing in bands forever

Uhh dp you even play an instrument? I can play most stringed instruments..guitar..bass..banjo some
.mandolin some...blah blah..as long as its either eadg or gdae or some variation or that...beadgc..or eadgbe obviously...banjo and mandolin r a bit different tuned but pretty easy.

I just learned bron yr aur stomp by zeppelin on guitar a few weeks ago...took me a bit to get the finger picking down but pretty easy now.

I learned playing with pink noise by kaki king before that for fun..took me a bit but it's e z once u get it.

I can read music and all that but honestly I just play by ear mostly. Been playing since like 7 grade or something..been in Hella bands.

Imho theory is something you should reserve once you master playing

I got all my chops playing in bands for years In bars and everywhere else.

Music theory is ok and I took it in high-school but honestly if you can pentatonic, everything comes e z as fuck once u start seeing shapes of scales on the fretboard. I see squares and connection for frets [or fretless] within a scale it's weird.
