It is not inconsequential. How it was lost is the only thing that matters.
Losing the ship itself is nothing but a good thing, since surface navies are insanely expensive and serve no real purpose, as demonstrated in this war. And Russia isn't short on ships.
However losing this ship to enemy action is insanely embarrassing and humiliating, and Russia should be feeling utterly ashamed of its own lack of ability, wit and coordination. -

The reason is that conspicuously destroying your own stuff is a sign that you are wealthy and can afford to lose stuff.
