quail hatch in 17 days and 10 weeks later they start laying eggs that you can hatch in 17 days, so I got 19 for $225 invested in feed birds and cages in 10 days I'll have at least 40 eggs that will be birds in 17 days so maybe 30 will hatch out but while they were hatching I'll gather 75 more eggs to hatch, you can raise 200 in a cage that is 3' x 8' and 1' tall and butcher in 9 weeks. thats a fast turn over chickens take most of a year before they lay an egg and I don't like farm butchered chickens at all. and Shure I could buy chicken eggs but for meat i would neeed to know a guy with cornish cross eggs for sale they weigh 5 lbs in 8 weeks but no one around here has them and the quail are small fast and easy to keep several around to restart more with ,, I'm thinkin food shortages and end of days hedge good trade goods,, hey man I got 6 quail for a shot of ur ol lady's pussy... or hey man I get an ounce of silver for 4 quail,, or bullets for quail, no thats crazy talk I would have to give 20 quail for 6 bullets but anyways I bet I could trade quail for coffee
  11. The foxes will now try to get at the quail.

You first bring across the chicken. Then you go back and bring the rice, then bring the chicken back, then leave it and bring the fox over, then come back and get the chicken.
  14. One of my buddies has fowl, and he says no matter what he tries to secure the cages, the foxes end up getting in and killing the birds.

I've got to build a chicken coop really fucking soon because they're getting too big for my basement. I started a 2 pallet sized floor on cinderblocks then got frustrated because I couldn't find a Dewalt charger for my saw. I've got 30 fucking Milwaukee chargers and other ones but no fucking Dewalt ffs. Now this thread reminded me I forgot to get a charger today. THE PAIN JUST KEEPS PILING ON AT THE EXPENSE OF MY CHICKENS

He's actually pretty smart. He's went to great lengths to keep the foxes out, but they always eventually find a way in, either by digging directly under the enclosure, or squirming through a crack in the roof. They can even undo locking mechanisms.

Raccoons are also little chicken-killing mischievous bastards.
They always find a way in eventually.
When they get in the coop, they don't just kill one bird and run off, it's like a serial killing lunatic on a murder spree.

If I ever have chickens again I need to fashion a cement bunker for them, like those world war two pillbox machine gun nests.

But even if you do something crazy like that so they're safe during the night, giants hawks and coyotes are still going to pick them off here and there when they're out during the day.

    Poor chickens.
