That makes a lot of sense. Until recently I had assumed he was Russian or Abkhaz.
Very interesting to hear about what his loyalties might be.
Armenia has leaned in hard on Russia in it's fights against Azerbaijan, similar to how Israel leans in to America in it's fights against all it's neighbours. The analogy isn't perfect, cos unlike the Armenians Israel are evil genocidal fucks, but the point is that Armenia never bothered making peace with Azerbaijan, so the whole Nagorno-Karbakh wound has just been left fester since the fall of the Soviet Union, even though Azerbaijan, like pretty much all muslim states, has an exploding population. -

Two Ukrainian helicopters blew up an oil depot in Belgorod, inside Russia. 8 tanks on fire according to the Russians. Amazing work.
Can't personally verify ANYTHING you hear out there anymore these days. Could very well been the Poles, flying a false flag against the Russians to make them attack and weaken Ukraine. Just one possibility among many. -

2022-04-01 at 10:58 AM UTCThere was a lot of crowing before the invasion from Putinites about how the economy had been made "sanction proof".... oops
There's also the fact that the Russian political system is disconnected from the population to a degree that's hard for outsiders to comprehend... That is the Russian government really doesn't have to worry about the economic effects of its (usually disastrous and failed) policies on the population. The powerful do what they want and the serfs (90 + per cent of the population) endure whatever indignity and hardship the tsar imposes on them.
This means that the political situation can get really horrible for most people and it won't affect how the government works (esp since Russians, unlike Poles and Ukrainians) don't really know how to carry out effective protests.
This thread by the invaluable Galeev explains some of it... Putin's Russia is all about the conflict between barons and courtiers... (the wider population is irrelevant).

Not relevant...there is a historical record.
Example:
"During the period of time before the Russian Revolution, life for the working class people and the peasants was very difficult. They worked for little pay, often went without food, and were exposed to dangerous working conditions." -

yeah pretty much everyone who's been trapped in Mariupol is saying the same thing (Azov dongs rob us and use us as shields); there just aren't many people saying it in English
have you seen that video where a couple of Azov guys have a family tied up on the floor while they play the terminator theme on their piano? -
