For what it's worth, I still don't believe Russia will take Ukrainian territory, but I was definitely incorrect in how far I thought they'd go in breaking the UAF offensive.
So far they've obliterated the nerve centre in Kharkov, destroyed ammunition depots and command outposts down the contact line and destroyed military runways significantly further wast.
I suspect the reason for the extensive campaign is the result of two things:
1. Continued (heavy) UAF attacks on the LDNR even after Russian 'peacekeepers' began to deploy (There may have been Russia casualties preceding this operation)
2. Zelensky openly talking about becoming a nuclear power. While he may not have been serious, the Ukraine still has significant Soviet-era nuclear facilities though could be reactivated, especially with the help of the west (though I don't think even the US would be suicidal enough for that endeavour).

also, I'll absolutely admit I was wrong if Russia annexes parts of the Ukraine (protecting the sovereignty of the LDNR notwithstanding) and isn't just taking away their ability to mount attacks

Aldra is there any resistance to Russia so far? Looks to me like there's almost no resistance. The Ukrainians seem to be rolling right over.

How exactly does it work if your country changes? Do you have to change your electricity supplier and the licence plate on your car and your bank? Do your parcels still get delivered if you put the wrong country on the address? Who keeps track of your traffic tickets and library fines?

Guy is on fire. Ukraine is like an impoverished imitation of the west in some ways - at least that's how the regime want Ukraine to go. People pick up on that.
I honestly can't imagine anyone who could fight for the west wanting to fight for the west. For instance in Ireland there are no positive portrayal of white couples with white children on TV advertising. You can watch ads all day, you won't find one. Why would I fight for that sort of country? Why would I?

Things get real and suddenly the bullshit ends.
Ukrainian is used in Ukraine similarly to how Gaelic is used in Ireland - everyone speaks Russian/English, Russian/English is the language of business and the vernacular for international communication, but the government want to promote the special snowflake language to try to get the people to see themselves as unique and different or some horseshit.
The Ukrainian government is on a jihad against Russian speaking TV and Russian speaking generally. For instance vk.com is blocked in Ukraine, and every Ukrainian MOON PERSON used to have an account. Now, when shit gets real, they drop the bullshit and appeal to national unity.
