Ukraine has put up a pretty good defense around Kiev, seems the south is falling quickly and Kharkov likely by tomorrow.

I don't know if Ukraine is likely to surrender but I'm gonna say no, so they're gonna be fighting with Russia over the south and east for a while at least. Russia wants the dniper to flow into Crimea again and some kinda land bridge between melitopol and marioupol and the current separatist regions.

I think ideally the biggest thing for Russia is the goal of regime change or making Russia friendly policies for this current one. Not sure if it will be worth it at the end of the day. The recognition of the Donbass as separate countries kinda fucked over Russia because now Ukraine can recognize them, join NATO, attack them and the minute they fight back trigger article 5 then take them back and Golan heights them.

Fuck the whole optics of the situation looks so bad on Russia, everything I see online has that crying faggot draped in the Ukrainian flag.
  4. Russia is asking for Kolomoyskyi to be put on Interpol's wanted list. On 2 July 2014 a Russian District Court authorized his arrest in absentia for "organizing the killing of civilians".

I think it'll crumble; Zelensky's shown that he's open to negotiation on neutrality (effectively surrender at this point) but like the Minsk Accords and any sort of rapproachment with the LDNR, he's had his leash yanked by the ultranationalists. Russia doesn't even really need to enter Kiev at this point; their strategy appears to be to disarm the country and turn the people against the government (which, for large swathes of the population, won't take much). It's difficult for the government to sell total war on the basis that 'the Russians are coming to exterminate you' when they keep pulling back when they meet resistance and have been very careful not to attack civilian infrastructure. Even the soldiers who surrender to them seem to be treated fairly well; many have just been tagged, forced to sign some sort of agreement not to take arms up again and sent home

no they can't, it was a condition of their sovereignty that neither Russia nor the LDNR can join an alliance against the other or host foreign militaries hostile to the other

I don't have 100% confirmation at this point but I'm fairly confident it's true that he's been found dead

I don't think Ukraine is gonna be disarmed, they're gonna be airdroped tons of arms, they're just gonna have their infrastructure crushed beforehand. Ukraine seems pretty unified west of the dneiper River against Russia for nationalist reasons to do with the fantasy of Ukraine as a separate eurocentric nation.

A short war is obviously in Russia best interest. I think in 2014 putin said he would take Kiev in a week and that doesn't seemvtoo far off. It's gonna be pinchered within a few days and get messy so zelensky kinda has to do something. Not a winnable battle at this point, it's just to increase the cost on Russia.

Why didn't Russia attack from transnistria? They're gonna fuck with Moldova to ensure they maintain russian allegiance right after Ukraine.

I didn't explain the separatist scenario well. I was saying Ukraine can allow the separatist regions to break away, then ukraine joins nato and attack the regions, then when Russia is provoked to attack it triggers article 5.

Even if Zelensky agrees to recognize Donbas and Luhansk regions, if that means Russia has to agree to not intervene further even if Ukraine is allowed to join NATO i don't think those conditions would be acceptable to Putin. Ukraine joining NATO is a real red line as far as Russian geo-political and strategic interests go.

Speaking of NATO. In related news. Germany has pledged to start spending more than 2% of GDP on defense and the Chancellor with massive support from the Bundestag, has initiated defense reform starting with a doubling of Germany's current defense budget from 100 billion euros to 200 billion euros. These initial steps are aimed at getting Germany to meet their NATO obligations, pay for weapons for Ukraine and expand their armed forces capabilities.

I haven't seen a lot of people talk about this but it's pretty historic of Germany to make this decision. After WWII Germany has been self cucked when it comes to defense. These measures that were decided in the last 24 hours will do more for Germany's defensive capabilities than all the reforms of the last 24 years combined.

    Which is pretty extraordinary.

Also, Belarus is set to remove principles of Neutrality from it's constitution in an effort to get closer ties with Russia and allow the stationing of Russian Nuclear Weapons within it's borders. At least those are the reports i have been reading from German sources.

No clue. The EU, has decided to cut off SWIFT from a number of Russian banks, not a blanket removal more like targeted financial intervention. So who can say?

Russia doubled their interest rate too, similar to what they did in 2014 and their interest rate was I believe 12% at its highest. Russia still has many venefits of its financial systems. The UK has a ton of Russian money in it they're still nit targeting with their sanctions and the EU made sure everyone knew they were taking some of Russia out of swift to give them ample time to move money around.

Pretty clear to see how much russia is relied on. Nothing targeting gazprom either that would be dusasterous

It wouldn't surprise me if the US as an incentive promised to help Germany with energy independence from Russia in order for Germany to push their recent defense reforms through. But that is as it stands speculation on my part.

how could they? the EU at large, and especially Germany is committing a very green kind of seppuku

fuel needs will grow with the ridiculous 'sustainability' plans (solar/wind will not hit the exaggerated targets they've set and they refuse to consider nuclear) and the US has neither the ability to compete on cost or volume

I am aware of that fact, and i am certainly aware that the US can't compete on volume, but it might not be out of the realm of possibility for the US to operate energy shipments at a loss for a good while. It's unsustainable as long as Germany is committed to green seppuku but in the short run it may have been enough incentive to push Germany over the edge in terms of getting them to at the very least start meeting their NATO obligations.

Again, speculation on my part, but it seems reasonably plausible to me.

Also i don't think it's an understatement to say that EU policy is by in large dictated by Germany. Especially now after Brexit.

Nord stream 2 is designed to make Germany the transit hub for EU oil shipments before distributing among neighbors. Germany would be dumb to fuck that up while the getting is good.
