I think it's more that people feel powerless to stop it. Their purpose is to protect the nation by whatever means, so mostly people see it as at least necessary if not just. When we're shown otherwise, then what recourse do we have? You can't jail people that don't exist or dismantle organizations that have essentially no oversight. They basically operate independently of all other branches of government. You can't vote them out, and enough politicians have encountered their wrath for the rest of them to understand that you don't stand against them if you value your life. What else can be done? -

the funny part is everyone thinks there is/are some uber-sekrit, mega-super-powerful entities/organizations that control the world.
in actuality, the base explanation is human nature in a manner that has been practiced since humans evolved into bipedal organisms.
there are a small few of normal, everyday human beings who happen to be smarter, more motivated, and better capable of exerting their will and desires over those who arent as smart, motivated, or capable. in some instances, out of pure chance and slight degrees of natural laws of averages, these regular humans congregate together in mutually beneficial clusters.
that summarizes every single conspiracy theory and sekrit-society in existence, along with the ones not known. there are also individuals that never collate and remain single persons who engage in the same antics.

Anyone who's tried to recreate a "first time" high with most stimulants in general knows what I'm talking about.

I've used/use stimulants on occasion, the most common being caffeine or caffeine / ephedrine /aspirin, but I've also used a prescribed amphetamine a handful of times while in the military. the effects on me, other than the obvious increased physical performance, is a mental 'high' where thoughts come faster, reaction times decrease, thinking, coherence, reading speed, and typing speed.
in other people I've know for years and years, I've seen how amphetamine-related drugs affect them and it's ALWAYS a mental-breakdown-esqueeze effect. of the recent ones, there different people I know are prescribed vyvance (amphetamine) and they all experience nutty craziness that was never present before. combine the vyvance with alcohol or xanax and it's a literally freak show.
one example is a geriatric in a geriatric home who is prescribed vyvance for some reason...then she can't sleep, so they give her xanax, and regardless of pre-dementia possibilities, she is totally fucking fruity. before she was on those drugs...and about 3 months after she stopped taking them...she is completely normal, coherent, and has zero memory/crazy behavior
I knew a guy in the military who was a normal cool guy until he started taking some sort of amphetamine that the corpsmen would literally hand out like candy...then he went full-on stupid. he was a dick to everyone, insubordinate, lost all his previous work ethic, and always carried the happy pills on his person and seemed to be constantly chewing on them. -
