Mark Burgess and the Chameleons UK still going strong
However their original Drummer John Levy passed away a few years ago.
I used to be into punk rock as a kid around age 12 in 1977 but then learned about Post punk which is basically gothic music.
these guys were about to take off along with bands like Echo and the bunnymen and Bauhaus but their manager died in 85 just as they were getting ready for touring the US. the band ended up breaking up out of frustration.
they since got back together a few times but were branded The band that should of been arena rock.
this is why I was asking I think Grylls if he would take photos of Manchester area for me (or someone else from UK, Maybe Jigaboo before finding out he lived in Texas?.. whoever it was). I've since thought of writing a photo book/coffee table regarding the post punk scene in and around the Manchester area of UK. which most bands of Gothic started in around Manchester as "The Manchester Sound"
Americans were in fact the first Punks but UK was the invention of Gothic rock.
Manchester today is not the Manchester of the 80s...massive rebuilding has occurred in the last 30yrs...derelict mills have been converted into high priced apartments. The city itself is "unrecognizable" to what it was back when I was a young fella me lad, crackheads are everywhere with Yuppies walking by them...taking photos now really wouldn't show what it was like in the 80s.
Still, you can watch my double best mate's youtube channel for a taste of Manchester now...he does regular vidoes in and around Manchester and is also quite the character.

its kind of like that in San Francisco as well. there were shitloads of old warehouses and powerhouse structures in South of Market which has been built up everything new. or renovated into apartments.
I think many cities became that way. San Francisco has become a hell hole of homeless and outsiders buying in.
Yeah, lots of punk rock and goth scene between the 1970s and 80s in SF.
Mission had a place called Target Video. a club full of a lot of punk
North Beach area had Mabuhay Gardens club (Filipino Nightclub became famous for punk and gothic later on)
when I hit 21 the in- place around mid 1980s was Folsom and 11th with a shitload of nightclubs on one street. DNA Lounge, Oasis, Paradise Lounge, Slims (A popular music venue), Holy Cow, Firehouse 7. all these clubs on one block was mostly the post era early-mid 80s punk district of that time.
It's fucked up this has happened. I few people did those level of drugs. maybe a band member or two was hardcore drug addict while the rest tried and stuck with alcohol. usually drug addicts' didn't stay in the band very long.
as for people in general, My brother and some of his friends were into heroin. I tried everything to hide my personal shit. everyone else in the family was normal. but he just was a good kid turned piece of shit.
but today there seems to be far more people into it. or just lack the places go to and hide out. maybe the lack of closed down garages sitting for decades is the reason you see them all like zombies roaming the streets.
Looks a lot like Market Street in San Francisco near Powell where the Cable Car turnstile is.
however there aren't as many homeless at that area but maybe 3-4 blocks away you suddenly enter the edge of the Tenderloin district and it's a shitstorm of crazy fucking people bum rushing you. or shitting everywhere. or breaking into cars right in front of cops who just look on and drive past them.
In Belfast with my friend, I was just asking directions then started kissing this guy, turned out he was a coke dealer, so we were doing coke in public while the peelers drove past. There was this aspie guy handing out e tabs, we talked about natural born killers. There was a heroin girl crying she was schizophrenic then she smashed a bottle and started cutting herself with the glass. We left because we didn’t want to get raped.
I think he moved to the US in the 80s or 90s when the USA was still a fun and decent place to be.
face it, no where in the world is it a great place to live (unless you got lots of money and live on an island)
it isn't where you live (at least 1st world) but when you lived in this world.
times are worse. Technology got funner but music and overall human attitudes suck.
shit, black and white folks were starting to get along in the 70s and 80s. then came the fucking 90s with video cameras catching Rodney King get his ass whooped bad. has been non-stop ever since.
