2021-12-28 at 6:05 PM UTCWe bought a home that was a former Model House (For the developers to show off the models) which had some nice upgrades and vaulted ceilings.
we downsized and moved to a (then) better neighborhood because a big fucking house was too difficult to clean. didn't feel like hiring maids to get up on ladders to clean cobwebs. I did it myself and it had to be done several times a year, plus the giant drape nearly 3 stories high had to be cleaned twice a year. a bitch to take down. it was heavy like a giant tapistry and had to be dry cleaned which cost like 300 bucks each time.
Who needs a big house (or estate home). it's not cozy.
I'm fine with living in a condo. however I miss working out in the yard, clipping trees and planting flowers and taking care of these rose plants I had.
I would love to live in a step-condo design. they're giant flats built like a steep pyramid so your neighbors were not directly above nor below. , they were popular in the 1960s and 70s. your patio was massive and hung over the neighbors below. made of concrete you didn't hear your neighbors very well. even a large patio condo would be cool to live in. HOA fees suck though. its as much as rent for a studio-1 bedroom. some are 1500 a month these days. brings down the value of the condo. but other than that, why move. -

2021-12-28 at 6:17 PM UTCI've got a two story, four bedroom, two bath house with separate heating/cooling for upstairs/downstairs. I never use the upstairs and have a 4" thick foam "door" that I use to keep them separated. My gas and/or electric rarely exceed $100 (I don't think ever above $120) in a month. It is way too much house for me but it is paid for and, because I installed 90% or better furnaces and 13 and 14 SEER AC's my expenses are low.

2021-12-28 at 6:18 PM UTCsomething like this
however I'v seen better designs
Staggered Step Condo's is another design, but I like the Pyramid Step design better.
these are very common today, which is like the Boxabl houses you can stack and add on, that Elon Musk bought to live in while in Austin.
here is one I think in Florida. this is a btter design.
they're not efficient with space however they're good designs because it doesn't cut off natural light for both occupants as well as people on the street. box or scattered condo designs are more space efficient however cause way to much shading on the sidewalk. which I think is being done on purpose to cool down the streets because of Global Warming (or they say) while adding a shitload to the carbon footprint they object to.
I believe in Building up and not outward is to help preserve open space for BLM (land Management)
but Pyramid Step Condos is a better design in earthquake country or even hurricane, tornado regions. it allows for a modest density while preserving sunlight for people who stroll the streets. Box structures are gay af. what is Modern and fancy today is Urban Blight in 20-30 years from now. -

2021-12-28 at 6:32 PM UTCsorry to go off topic on my own thread. however I didn't want to make a new one regarding this subject which as an amatuer building and urban designer. trying to murder off the basic grid and block formations that exist in the USA while more artful and curved streets exist in Europe.
the whole prefab to less boxation of America is the way to go
you can drop a minimalist structure off like this
then telescope the fucker like this
then get a Crain and fan them out and stack the fuckers and build this.
however this design sucks because it has no patios. this is more future urban blight. this is a cheap way to build low income housing. but the concept is cool. -

Not true at all. Our military industrial complex produces it's own rockets and artillery. I could blow you into bits and leave your shitty rental BNB a smoking crater in the dust, yid

I had a large arch window that was custom size. none of the prefabs fit it. the material my late wife chose was very thick. like Persian Tapestry. -
