This is a huge invasion of privacy
I discovered this by accident yesterday when I opened a picture and saw that the text on the photo had been highlighted
Then I remembered that they were going to hash pictures and videos to check for child porn
You know they’re going to bring this to Mac OS and you fucking know Microsoft will be doing this as well
Privacy is effectively dead and now every device you will own from a monitor to your operating system and your eventually hmd will be constantly monitored and all your actions will be cataloged
The tech industry needs to be stopped and these people must be taken to court
They can’t just do this shit without public consent
So you're angry because you are a pedo and looking at Child Porn? -

think about the NSA guys or private groups hired to watch people of suspicion in their own homes, with occasionally the wife or even child walking in the house naked to the shower or from. then taking a photo with his or her own personal phone cam to share later. I know this has happened. and no doubt more than once. -

Hiring a single 'operative' is gonna cost you an arm and a leg, hiring a group of them is unaffordable for most people. And the NSA might have everyone's data sitting in their servers, but it's not actively being used to compromise everyone's privacy all at once. It's way too much data for that. Even for the NSA. So Joe the bricklayer from Smalltown USA is going to be fine. And you will be too right up until the moment you cause a shitstorm of a magnitude to cross the threshold into 'worth the time and resources to investigate further' territory.
Like aldra said, it sets a bad precedent if all of a sudden any enterprise with the capabilities to do so can just decide you don't have privacy anymore. And the best part is they won't even have to have expensive surveillance programs, because you'll buy their fucking trinkets from them. You'll be funding your own ass raping. -

judging by the whitepaper, it's a process that runs on the device to create and index hashes of stored images in a database. when you upload an image to iCloud the hash is bound to it, likely so that the image can still be tracked to the original hash if it's been altered (ie. resizing, fi'ltering etc.).
What is not clear (or maybe I just didn't see it) is whether Apple has direct access to the hash database on the device - I would assume the answer is yes.
and i would assume the answer is no. you are assuming too much. you think they have some backdoor to every device and are able to eavesdrop on users without violating their vustomer trust or sntitrust laws or privacy of end users like sony got in toruble for for yrd sgo costing them like a billion dollars in pr related to the somy network? -

yes you fucking idiot, they already have the tools to remotely access devices, they're just very careful about how and when they use them. one of the reasons PEGASUS is such a big deal is because it leverages existing backdoors that Apple left in the devices.
'I'll just assume one of the biggest state-aligned companies in the world is going to side with consumers rather than the state, even after they've openly deployed mandatory tools that catalogue your data' -
2021-11-29 at 6:33 AM UTCyou still have no proof for any of your theories about how they are going to spy and sutomatically go through millions of iphones simuktaneously not connected to icloud.

2021-11-29 at 6:41 AM UTCit doesn't really bother me if you deny what's right in front of you, it'll just be funnier when you get arrested for being a retard again.
when you're on the stand, make sure and say "but I thought Apple wouldn't find my CP if I didn't upload it to icloud" -

2021-11-29 at 7:03 AM UTCagain the somy fiasdo proves i am right and i am sure apple doesnt want that.

You are free to ignore all the good advice in the world. -

2021-11-29 at 9:35 AM UTCAll you have to do is not have any CP, anti-semitism, anti-vaxxer memes, hate-facts, kremlin propaganda, slander about our leaders, mis-science, union-organising, racism, homophobia, transphobia, whitesplaining, slut-shaming, or right wing misinformation about the state of the world on your phone.
This change only affects immoral people. Completely moral people like me won't be affected, in fact I hope I can get a job hunting down the rest of you in a posse.

2021-11-29 at 9:49 AM UTCgrab em by the posse

2021-11-29 at 11:40 AM UTCSounds like mommy couldn’t afford to get you that apple product you wanted for Christmas
Ask her again kindly and she might do some more whoring
In fact, if you record her in the act and send it to me I’ll get you anything you want for Christmas -
2021-11-29 at 12:55 PM UTCit would definitely violate user privacy and even european privacy laws aldra. There is no way theyd do that without informing their share holders and end users and it would be such a secret by journalists right now if it was not a choice like choosing to use icloud ahead of selecting the latest operating system where it is explained to end users prior to updating.

Instead of scanning images in the cloud, the system performs on-device matching using a database of known CSAM image hashes provided by NCMEC and other child safety organizations. Apple further transforms this database into an unreadable set of hashes that is securely stored on users’ devices.

Basically your iPad will know if you have CP on it, but it will only summon law enforcement on you as soon as you turn on iCloud syncing.
But it'll always be there, watching what you download, making notes, and waiting for you to hit that button. -
2021-11-29 at 2:26 PM UTCexcept „these fewtures are only coming to ipad os 15” or the upcoming os so its not like they had implemented such a thing without letting people know ahead of time in the current versions of ios.
