But I've grown to realize there are a lot of plus sides to the lifestyle. Easy drugs, cheap living, fresh food and drinks on demand, warm climate, good music, and stray dogs to lick your ass clean for you. It's like zero effort life.

I’m currently building a bigger house than I ever thought I would have the privilege to own. Of course one day I will have it paid off, but not at the expense of other investments.
I have a competitive nature, so even though I have achieved a higher level in my career than most people retire from (especially at my age), I always strive to achieve more. I take rejection personally, which is something (of many things) I am working on.
I will have $1 million in liquid assets (not counting my house) at least by the time I am 55. Substantially more by the time I retire.
I value experiences more than things. I have spent a lot of money on some nice vacations and I will continue to do so.
I plan on leaving a legacy of character values and an inheritance, only one of which has been left to me.
The light at the end of the tunnel is beyond myself, which is where I would like to focus my efforts.The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire! -

It's not a fantasy. Honestly, I'd hope my body fails before my brain, but what are the options if not? Some shitty care home? Dignitas? There's no benefit from either.
I genuinely did witness the scene I described, more or less, and it was repulsive. But from the point of view of the guy lying there looking half-dead, it probably wasn't that bad. -

I don't waste time wishing. It's all a fucking slog, and the rewards aren't worth it for the effort put in. I already own two houses outright, I have some paper investments and a small stack of cash. None of it was 'earned' in the sense that I had a goal and worked towards achieving it. It was essentially just luck, without which I'd still be slogging to pay a mortgage and constantly worrying about my job.
I suppose I'm either contented or I'm depressed. -
