Yes, I explained the origin of the nickname. I like the video games. I like the character. I used the handle. For some reason you are taking this to mean that I care about whatever "identity" people have chosen to anchor to the username, or that this username in particular is important to me. That is a non-sequitur on two levels, which (again) should be obvious, but just in case it's not, I'll lay it out:
- The handle is not the identity/image/personality associated with the handle. This was the original point, and not whether or not I care about a specific nickname. If I chose another nickname and people still knew that I was the same person, the identity would remain the same; it would merely be transferred to the new handle.
- Me choosing a particular nickname and then choosing to continue using it does not mean that I care about that specific nickname in any special capacity either. I can think of a thousand other nicknames. But why would it be any better or worse than the one I've already picked? I've merely chosen to use the same one, not out of any particular attachment to it, but because there is no reason to use any other one.
You are drawing a conclusion from completely unrelated evidence. What you are arguing is essentially "oh you don't care about what chain of gas station you go to? Then why have you gone to the Exxon for the past 10 years?" I've picked a house close to the Exxon. It's not any more complicated than that. -
