Sophie, how come you say you're an atheist, and not an agnostic? I've always seen it as the atheist says "there is no God" and the agnostic says "I don't/can't know if there is a God". Why are you so sure?

I know I'm going to get laughed off the forum for this, but...

If you give 10% of your income to a church you will find yourself with more money. I'm not joking. I don't know why or how it works, but it does work

So let's say I make $24,000 a year. Do I have to give $100 every 2 weeks or can I give $2,400 once a year? What if I didn't tithe for 5 years then gave them $12,000? What if I don't have any income?

I know you're just trolling me but I really don't know. All I can say is I do 10% every paycheck and I have found myself with more money than I did before. I was always broke as fuck before and now I'm...slightly less broke.

Maybe giving away that 10% causes you to subconsciously (or consciously) be more conservative with your spending habits with the remainder. So, in essence it DOES work, but not because of some God aspect like He's magically giving you secret money.

You seriously tithe? Are you a devout Christian? Didn't even know you were a Christian at all I don't think. It doesn't change my opinion of you I just think that's interesting.

Yes I do. If nothing else I like that it helps support a church that I like. It's a small one too so they probably need it.

I try to be as "Christ-like" as I can but that doesn't mean I unconditionally accept all of the dogma typically associated with Christianity. I tend to distance myself from most other Christians for that reason. I can't stand it when people say they do or believe something "because a preacher or book told me to."

It's a pain in the ass trying to explain to other Christians about how king James wrote his own personal biases into the English version of the bible without them resorting to your typical circular logic about "but the bible says..."

I do wonder if part of the tithing thing is subconsciously being more conservative with your remaining 90% but imo it can't be just that
