Dry icing postal fraud (eg Amazon)

The dry ice evaporates while the box is in transit, so amazon receive an empty box, and assume the item was stolen in transit.

this is brilliant for a teenager movie flick but if you try this youd realize :
ice has density of water plus some and frozen co² has the density of co² plus some.
ie, your going to need a lot of it to weight a little. -

Amazon doesn't pick up returns (that I know of, plus I drove for them before)
That's if you drop it off with a return slip on a box, you can opt secured return by both Amazon (depending on the seller to pay for it) and by ups or USPS and sometimes fed-ex
If you ask for insurance often the person will ask you to open the box up to confirm. They're good to confirm regardless however if it's busy they will just mark it 'confirmed'
Of course if you put it in a box, how did the item get let out of the product packaging?. If it's a loose item then it will be spotted and confirmed.
So this would rarely work as a scam. It looks like a shallow claim by author as totse was full of. Just shit to tell. -

I have never once had a post office or a shipping store/drop off point open my package and check it. That is an insane violation of privacy. I feel like that wouldn’t be done unless you have a track record with postal/package service abuse, which even then, they don’t check ID when dropping off packages so you’d have to be recognized by sight. Where in the hell do they open packages prior to shipping when a person drops off a package?????

If you're paying them for insurance on an item they sure in hell do have the right to check the box.
It's perfectly with in their right to do so. You have to agree to it. They're not going to check it later on without your permission.

Where? California. And I didn't have a history of this. Sometimes they swirl the package and ask "is there packing material like bubble wrap". If it's insured they can use that as a reason to check so the item is secured properly. -

1. Weird, I have never had to supply pictures of my car for my car insurance. Only the VIN, which can pull if there has been reported accidents but not the actual current condition of the car.
2. It must be different by locale, I have never once had a package be opened with or without permission at the post office/shipping store when I have brought it for shipping. They just take it and mail it. Sometimes they will ask if there’s anything “prohibited” in the box such as flammables and what-not but that depends on the person working and the mood they’re in I suppose. I used to live in California and sent out packages on a weekly basis (they were huge too, military care packages) and I never had an issue then either.

Yeah but if they see military they don't usually ask. But that's just an assumption. I do have grave disease and look wide eyed, but it's probably illegal to judge me from others based on that.
And it doesn't happen 5o me all the time. And once a black dude in front of me at the UPS store was asked if he wanted insurance, he said yes, they swirled his package (nohomo) and asked to open it. He flipped out a little bit. I almost said "hey that happens to me" but shut it down real quick.
My "boomer years" people didn't have these issues. Clearly post 9-11 but it's sensitive now.and this happened just 2 months ago near Berkeley, Bay Area where the liberal hub went from easy pleasy to rules on everything.

The mail person might touch it and say "this package is far to cold to ship" then they would return it to sender but because you sent it they will send it to you then you would be excited because you thought you got a package only to be disappointed that is contains nothing.
The moral of this story is not to put all your dry ice in one package. -
