They always have to process this. Usually banks deposit the money into your account before your actual deposit has gone through. But it depends on your bank and also how much you're depositing.
This is why crypto is better and why banks are moving to closed crypto systems. Instant processing :)

A lot of banks still rely on IBM mainframe computers or similar running COBOL programmes to do the heavy lifting. Usually they settle up with each other overnight, they all run a bunch of batch jobs, and send their transactions to each other and to intermediaries. It makes things much simpler, although obviously it is a system that was designed when banks were open 9-5 Monday to Friday with international transfers being conducted via various letters, and unsuitable for the internet world.
