(CNN)The House of Representatives is on track to vote Thursday on a bill that would grant statehood to Washington, DC, a Democratic priority that faces obstacles to final passage even with the party now in control of both chambers of Congress and the White House.
House Democrats passed the bill – H.R. 51, the Washington, D.C. Admission Act – last year in a historic vote that marked the first time either chamber of Congress had advanced a DC statehood measure. But it did not advance in the Senate, which was controlled by a Republican majority at the time.
Now Democrats are pushing again for its passage. The legislation is expected to pass in the House but still face an uphill fight in the Senate, where it is unlikely to get enough Republican support to clear a 60-vote threshold for passage.

If you look outside America its actually quite common to have umbrella'd city states. I don't think the Senate aspect of creating a new state is fair, but again, maybe it should be based on population like a real representative democracy. Making DC a state would effectively increase representation in American elections and I am all for that.
Realistically this will happen 2nd term after new fillabuster laws pass. They know this won't happen this round, but its coming eventually. This has never gotten to Congress before despite being talked about for decades by people in DC

I never thought DC would become it. and they need to change the name of the State as Washington because it will confuse shit. possibly mail. or allow false mailfronts of known business to scam people.
