Because basically if your goal is to persuade people, bandying about stats, figures, fucking graphs even is going to have a lot of people tune out.
A better method is to use simple messaging, appeals to emotion and well produced propaganda.

The kind of people who talk about defunding the police have a fairly justifiable reason for being averse to relying on statistics. Statistics are a double edged sword. If you're relying on the plight of the negro as the crux of your police abolishment narrative, emotional appeals are a far smarter choice.
