As far as they were concerned I expect stepping off the edge of the building/bridge was/is death delayed by a few seconds of travel time.
Although they survived when they took that step they thought they were going to die...and regretted the step.
It's a bit like me eating that Little Cesars Pizza yesterday...I KNEW it was a bad idea and I'd suffer for it later...but I went ahead and did it anyway only to regret it and ask myself...WHY

That assumes there is no afterlife or reincarnation. I mean if you were reincarnated as a Kneegroid you might regret having ended your first life.
But the point was in the method where a delay was present between taking (what they thought was) a final step and certain death they DID regret it..they were dead men walking..or falling. -

You can easily prove your point by presenting to me a dead man who regrets having killed himself. Just show me one. Not a person who regrets their attempt. An actual dead person. If you have to go to hell and find one there, that's fine. You can even kill yourself and then come here and post and tell me you you regret it. Youd probably get 50 thankzeez. -

This isn't a court of law Billy...this is more of a civil case where the Judge or Magistrate doesn't require massive amounts of proof...if you look like a tosser he's going to throw the book at you.
Consider the situation is you are about to receive a copy of "Twilight breaking dawn" flying at your head. -
