Cartoon Network taught me English when i was but a wee lad.
Originally posted by mmQ How long have you spoken it fluently?
I would have to say about 13 years.
Originally posted by mmQ Does most everyone you know
ovwr there also speak English?
Yes they do, especially my friends. A lot of colleges here have solely English lectures not only that, a requirement for getting into academics at any sort of meaningful level is being able to speak English. The older generation, like my parents speak English too, but too a much lesser degree. You can basically start speaking English to anyone in The Netherlands and they will respond to you in English.
Originally posted by mmQ Did your parents speak both languages to you growing up?
Yes but not actively around the kids, my father has his own business though and he would have international customers as well so it was kind of a requirement for him.
Originally posted by mmQ Do you converse always in Dutch irl or do you have English conversations with other Dutch/English speakers?
Thank you.
I mostly speak Dutch IRL, but randomly English with my gf as well, don't ask me why it's just a weird thing we do for some reason. -

That's what I was wondering about with the English conversations you might have, with as you said you occasionally have with your girlfriend. You said it was a weird thing you guise do so I'm guessing that means it's not very common to speak in English over there most of the time? Are there any specific contexts outside of school where two native Dutch speakers often choose to speak English?
Thank you. -

2017-03-23 at 8:41 AM UTCYeah, probably Mandarin, stands to be pretty useful. I'd probably like to know French more but the romance languages are supposed to be comparatively easy for English speakers to learn, and the writing system would probably help out with learning Japanese.

British and Irish accents are sexy to me (women) but scottish is harsh like German so it's scarey being around them :( -

Oh, this is a good point, one that I had thought of in the past. Similar to Spanish, past a moderate level position/level of income you're likely not going to find it very useful or need it very often. You live in separate worlds eventually where you never really interact with them. -

I ask chinese coworkers (who I believed to be my friend) how to say something in Chinese but most of the time they look at me and say "Naw, just focus on work" or something to get out of telling me.
The only thing we all said was "Aye Yaa" like "WTF" or whatever the literal translation is. more of a grunt noise of disappointment when your car breaks down. Cantonese seems easier to learn, but I keep forgetting what I learn. it's hard to associate word for word. I need Rosetta stone, then blend in with friends willing to teach me connotations and perhaps watch Chinese children shows as well as Soap Operas or Chinese Drama.
the answer to your 1st question is neither.
secondly ... aye-yaa is more like Gott Dammm Mittt than WTF.
Anyway, i'm pretty sure you have some negro american friends or at least a few negro american co-workers, but did you ever harrass them by asking how to speak or saying things in africann or whatever it is their negro languages ??
and if not, why the double and triple standard ? are we some a fucking leins to you ?
A FUCKING LIENS, ARE WE ITT ??? -

I asked a black guy how to say something in Spanish because he spoke spanish in his country.
The people I knew from Africa spoke french or english depending on the either two locations.
It's possible one of them from my younger days spoke Swahili .. never dawned on me to ask them anything.
This isn't the only moment in my life.. the subject just turned to this specific prolly or not. You're edgy as fuck -

Yes it's uncommon and we just talk about random things in English at random times.

No, we have to learn German and French as well because those fuckers don't speak English for shit. Except for RisiR.
