a coherent group of tested general propositions, commonly regarded as correct, that can be used as principles of explanation and prediction for a class of phenomena:
"TESTED" is not synonymous with "proven to be true".
one can be TESTED for COVID**, HIV and a variety of other STDs without having to be positive to be labelled as "TESTED" for STDs. -

Well yes there is as pointed out, supporting evidence...a legit theory (such as the theory of evolution) has supporting evidence, a conspiracy theory (such as the hollow Earth Theory) doesn't. -

No, a conspiracy theory is just a theory that posits a conspiracy, it has nothing to do with the level of supporting evidence. Saying Al-Qaeda coordinated to do 9/11 is also a conspiracy theory. But it's just also true. -

2021-01-20 at 2:19 AM UTCThe term "conspiracy theory" has picked up the connotation of "insane ramblings of a paranoiac madman" over the years. Perhaps justifiably, perhaps as part of a conspiracy on the part of the CIA to delegitimize people who question the mainstream narrative of events. In general though - as a concept - nothing is wrong with conspiracy theories. Sometimes people conspire, and theorizing about such incidents is not inherently silly. That said, conspiracy theories - in specific - often are silly. It's only natural for people to start dismissing similar things offhand after a while of being exposed to credulous fools spouting all kinds of easily disprovable nonsense.
