Whats wrong with conspiracy theories?

2021-01-19 at 6:10 PM UTCback when I was a young fella me lad (yes again)...I worked temporarily with a guy who went on and on about this horse named "Desert Orchid" and how it was going to change the face of racing saying he knew someone who worked at the stable for it...that day it's odds were 23-1 or something like that...and I was going to the bookies so he asked me to place a bet for him and gave me 200 quid...quite a sum to a young fella me lad like me...so I placed his bet and I put a couple of quid on it myself just for giggles...sure enough it won and he collected like 4600 quid (and I collected 46).

Now that was inside info but I don't see how it's illegal inside info...if you are training the horse etc you are aware of how good it is...I don't think there is a law preventing you from betting on it.

Not really, information is/can be involved in both...If you familiarize yourself with a company, it's products it's vision, it's plans that's information you can use.
People who buy Tesla stock for example are using information they have gained about the company, it's track record, it's products, the market "desire" for such products etc and not just picking it at random. -

people who put their money into tesla after they learnt and researched about the company are investors.
people who put their money into tesla despite knowing nothing about the company and what it produces are gamblers. -

Sure it can...as I mentioned previously eventually a theory has to have some verifiable supporting proof or evidence or if its a scientific theory some practical experiment that can be duplicated supporting said theory.
Now if you have a theory for example that Aliens have a base in the Antarctic and have for 50yrs and that they plan on taking over the world...but in that 50yrs there hasn't been a single shred of evidence to support your theory...then it's just a nutty conspiracy theory...not a theory.The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire! -

Wheres the conspiracy in this? all im hearing is they conspire to take over the world, which is a little vague, one could say everyone is planning to take over the world, whether or not they succeed being irrelevant since you are only accusing them of thought crimes.
them having a base in antarctica is a concrete theory, however. but where is the conspiracy?
