Yeah black mirror is rad It's very far from a pefect show but it has that feel of the outer limits / twighlight zone... I was doing community service the other day with this girl and this guy and the dude (younger guy) had something contrary to say about everything I said and he went on about how its a sjw show... and I guess I could see how you could spin it that way.. but what series in these days or even in the past didn't do that? Thats how sci-fi has always been... The tosser had the gull to say he like google as a company and watches game of thrones with his girlfriend..

but i digress.. even the weaker episodes of black mirror still have a point

also I don't know if you've seen west world, it of course has tons of flaws but it touches on similar subject matter a lot better than stranger things plus it has anthony hopkins, i don't like the whole cowboy aspect of it which they use just to dress people up to appeal to the people that saw dead pool on hbo and look "pretty" but it still has a lot going for it

I'm surprised this many people haven't seen Stranger Things. I do know a lot of people who probably watch a little too much netflix so that may be part of it.

I liked stranger things for the cinematography and all the nostalgia throwbacks (although that got kinda pretentious at times, "ohh, dnd nerds, sooo 80s" FUCK YOU). I like it better than westworld.

My complaint about both series is that they try to pitch themselves as plot heavy and possessing some substance, which I guess relative to the anemic atmosphere of modern broadcast television they do actually have, but which falls far short of both fan hype and the internal buildup. The difference for me was that stranger things could carry itself on its atmosphere/meta while westworld couldn't despite it's absurd production value. It had all the trappings of a western but failed to capture the soul of that genre, opting instead for a western veneer on a fundamentally sci-fi world (compare firefly, which while flawed does actually manage a thematic blend). By contrast stranger things was what was on the box, managed to be legitimately charming, and even if it fell short of everything it promised it had an internal sense of what it was and did that well.

Stranger things is the modern day buffy the vampire slayer but on netflix.. west world is definitely more serious and adult the whole cowboy bs gives me the feel HBO used the same costumes that were already made for dead wood. (my friend used to work for HBO as a set guy) And I understand you have to fit a female audience these days into sci-fi but im just really not into stuff like that walking dead where its about relationships and drama and stuff that I already am sick of in my own life. It's geared towards women and gay men just like true blood. Just my opinion..

And I'm not sure what you actually mean about being "plot heavy" because I think they plot their plot heavily but they surround it around sci-fi concept and I kind of get that but at the same time it goes way too much into that for my taste...

Maybe you're too young lanny maybe not, but there were shows like "V" (not the new one) and "alien nation" that to me had a perfect balance of teh drama and the sci-fi and it was just interesting to watch

and I know it looks cheezy as hell but it was way more intersting, plus Michael ironside

i guess you could just chalk it up to its all been done before but its "newer" now
