To be honest, the particular meme template here is kinda lost on me.

Regarding that particular quote, though, I believe trade unions are a good thing in concept.

A major flaw though is the potential for corruption within them.

Some unions are historically notorious for being run by organized crime.

Which is ironic as fuck because it just creates microcosms of "organized greed".

Holy shit I didn't know it had a name.

That's the closest approximation to a political ideology that I (thought I) invented many years ago.

Although in fairness I should have figured others had thought if it.

My own variation had some minor differences, but that's damn close.

I don't think people are fundamentally able to create or maintain a stable political system long-term

so I'll go with anarchism, of the Liberian school

Labor unions are just businesses that sell labor as a commodity and use anti-competitive behavior to enforce their arbitrary monopoly on that kind of labor (see: retaliation against scabs, scab lists, etc). They are the thing they claim to hate. smh

That which endures in the maelstrom is more interesting to me than societies at peak entropy.

I mean, yeah, in practice, that's often what they end up doing.

But they also serve a very useful function if you end up fired for unjust cause.

Lol you make it sound like they're handing jobs out on the corner like it's candy.

In an ideal world, sure, you just move on, and some kind of mechanism reduces the friction of unemployment and a job that needs filling opens up immediately.

But that's so rarely a realistic scenario.

Unions have tons of flaws, but they are not unilaterally a bad thing.

Unions are meant to be a counterbalance on the part of the employee given the difference in negotiating power between a non-specialist and an employer

Corruption is possible in a union, but it's also possible on the employers' part too - things like industry blacklists or wage agreements like the ones between Google and Apple a few years back.

Having unions essentially fighting against employers removes the middle ground between the two meaning people in low-skilled roles are forced to choose a side, but a lot of them would argue it beats being steamrolled

But the problem that remains is what to actually do to "govern the people"

to maintain the social order, a commonality among the society must be nurtured. religion has been the most effective for this. it kept the family together, discouraged womens hypergamous nature as well as mens overly competitive nature, motivated everyone to produce and take care of each other. of course, as the world got really complex at an accelerated rate, religion became an obsolete joke and the social order is again falling apart.

ideology is just another religion but proven to be less effective as weve seen that experiment with the soviet union.

to provide for everybodys human needs and give them a meaningful purpose is not easy. look at totse for an example, we were a community of what, 80000 users? whatever brought us together and kept us together for a decade obviously wasnt enough as we split split and split until we became this tiny speck known as NIS. totse became a failed state.

now imagine how fucking difficult it is to keep a country together. so many demographics, so many things that need to be balanced and coordinated perfectly while being balanced with a billion other unpredictable things.

    the complexity cannot be overstated.

If we had no central governing authority, then all that's left is anarcho-capitalism.

and what fills that void? billionaires, mafiosos, warlords who will replace that government with another one. government isnt some foreign abstraction that demons impose on us, it is a natural entity. even tribes have government.

i wish we could have a world without hierarchy but what use is it living in a fantasy.
