2020-09-17 at 4 AM UTCYou do realize they're not getting actual money right? Its literally just for patients with Medicare. A lot of the stuff is covered under medicare anyway. This helps keep hospitals in business when people dont pay their bills.

So does medicare make payments with monopoly money as opposed to "actual money"? -

Lets look at two situations to help you understand. I often do this with the kids at my work.
Situation 1- patient gets bill for 10 dollars. Medicare normally pays 1 dollar of this. If the patient pays everything, the hospital gets 10 dollars.
Situation 2- patient gets bill for 1 dollar. Medicare normally pays 1, but will now pay an additional 20% and pay 3 dollars. If the patient pays everything, the hospital gets 10 dollars.
In no situation are hospitals making any money they wouldn't otherwise have.
Certainly no 39k for every covid patient.
When you look at the actual legislation it makes sense. When you look at bullshit Fox articles, you're what we get. -
2020-09-17 at 4:12 AM UTCSenator Dr. Scott Jensen: Right now Medicare is determining that if you have a COVID-19 admission to the hospital you get $13,000. If that COVID-19 patient goes on a ventilator you get $39,000, three times as much. Nobody can tell me after 35 years in the world of medicine that sometimes those kinds of things impact on what we do.

In the face of 200,000 Americans dead due to COVID-19, all right wingers can say is that the numbers are a lie. They intentionally misconstrue information to try and make it seem like the numbers are higher than reported, trusting that most people won't take the time out of their day to research, and actually look at the information themselves.
Let's fact check, shall we? Here are the words that Trump's supporters have so lovingly latched on to.
https://www.factcheck.org/2020/09/cdc-did-not-admit-only-6-of-recorded-deaths-from-covid-19/
You'll notice now the narrative changes, and different people will say that different amounts of the death toll is faked, without sources of course. 6% is of course the favorite, but I've also seen people claim 1/3 or 1/2 are faked. It's all nonsense.
At the beginning of this pandemic there was a study done to see how many cases and deaths there would be by Feburary 2021 if we locked down properly. They guessed that at most, we would have 36,000 deaths, and 760,000 cases. Right now we have 200,000 deaths and 6,640,000 cases.
Let's wrongly assume the 6% number is right and there are only 12,000 deaths. That's a 0.18% mortality rate. The flu, (again only using the highest estimates provided by the CDC) has a mortality rate of 0.11%. This is nearly twice as deadly as the flu. Or it would be. The real mortality rate of COVID in America is 3%. This makes it 27x more deadly than the flu, and the third largest cause of death in America.
