Should I buy a house in Australia?
-
2020-09-07 at 2:42 AM UTCI live in NZ lol
Pros:
- House prices are a lot cheaper
- Better economy and cheaper food
- A lot of sunshine
- Friendly people
- Police seem to crack more skulls
Cons:
- Shit internet, which I rely on for business
- Massive parts of the country seem to burst into flame from time to time
- Suburban and Exurban sprawl is crazy
- It will be a PITA to become a permanent resident -

Sydney is not realistic. IMHO. Perth would be tempting if their airport expanded a bit.
I actually liked Melbourne the few times I went; it has a reputation for being full of arty hipsters but I didn't find it to be any worse than Sydney in that regard. Seems to be a little more relaxed there.
Brisbane I haven't been to in a long time.
Sydney's property market is retarded, along with a lot of other things. You could probably get a decent place out west though (Penrith area).
Perth has far fewer people but is spread across a huge area so it's long drive to everything. That and I had a few friends spend a couple of years there after high school and they all came back fucked. Everyone under 25 there is a fucking mutant.
I've considered South Australia or Tasmania myself because I prefer the quiet/isolation -

I've never actually been out to Perth. I've heard it's one of the rougher towns. Being in the middle of nowhere is kind of appealing though. -

Maybe I should just keep renting for the next 5 years. Investments are going well, and I save pretty well.
I do risk being locked out of the property market for years. But the upside of this is when the crash does happen, I could swoop in like a vulture, licking the tears of would be property moguls, and purchasing their firesale houses for peanuts. -
2020-09-07 at 4:04 AM UTCI was going to say "No, it's just an island" but then you hit me with that "I live on an island lol."

2020-09-07 at 4:05 AM UTCTasmania is a meta-island

2020-09-07 at 4:07 AM UTCIt's a pretty big island - the same size is the lower 48.
IDK about you but I'd rather have sea than Canada or Mexico lol -

I'm not sure but it sounds like you are saying Tasmania is roughly the same size as the continental US. What do you mean by, "the same size as the lower 48"? -

No I mean Australian mainland itself. Not sure what state Tasmania compares to in size off the top of my head. -
