Anyway brb to play Factorio for the next 12 hours.
The alien bug fuckers represent our own dionysian, destructive, idle psyches, and sprawling factories are the apollonian imposition of order on a hostile and procedurally generated world. At first the machines provide for us, keep us safe, we care for them and they care for us. But soon they suck the ground dry, we lay waste to the bugs through fire and smog, we launch our rockets and sit admits our massive industrial contraption, the last challenge conquered, and we are empty.
Next episode: becoming the absurd hero of Bob/Angle's mods -

2020-08-22 at 11:42 PM UTCpeople who claim knowing the meaning of life dont know the meaning of meaning.

2020-08-22 at 11:45 PM UTC"Meaning" as something we're born with is a stupid idea. Obviously the meaning of life from nature's view is to fuck and have offspring.
But as individual thoughtful beings i'm more inclined to believe we can make our own meaning, or purpose.
In my case, my purpose is to figure out what the fuck is going on here. And when i say here i mean here in this reality.
Far to many times i have woken up, looked around, and asked myself what the fuck is this shit? And so one day it all became clear, i had to find out. So that's what i do now.
Find something that interests you, gain purpose by pursuing it. -
2020-08-23 at 12 AM UTCI agree^ to put it in my own words:
Meaning I think is perhaps the wrong to use. Anyone can subjectively assign meaning, or objectively declare it from an evolutionary psychology point of view. But for a human to be content and maximise the potential for happiness they need more than meaning, they need a purpose.
In this context I'm talking of a purpose as a relatively challenging medium term to long term goal or aspiration that does not give quick doses of feel-good emotions (like games or casual sex). Humans need to experience what it is like to work towards something, to build something over a long period of time where the pay-off is only at the very end. A task that requires discipline and then rewards the individual for their consistence obedience to a self-imposed schedule.
To clarify, in my first post on this thread I said:

When I meant (obviously):

TL;DR gamers and the sexually promiscuous are degenerates. amiwrong? -
2020-08-23 at 12:03 AM UTCI thought the answer to depression was pharmaceuticals. I would rather a philosophical curative but it seems out of reach.
Discipline is good, but I feel like I'd find more meaning smoking weed by the riverbank than in self-imposed tyranny and a an idea of an accomplished goal. You might realize your venture, only for the bittersweet feeling like finishing a good book and hole again. What after? another mountain? Another treadmill? -

purposes and meanings are the same thing.
in order to have a purpose you and your live have to first have a meaning. -

On a re-read, yes they can probably be used interchangeably. When I wrote that I couldn't think of a better way to put it. Perhaps "goal" was enough all along. -
