2020-08-22 at 4:59 AM UTCIs the answer to depression feeling more "fulfilled?" I definitely need changes

2020-08-22 at 5:39 AM UTCThe answer depends on the question it’s asking.

This is why Jordan Peterson and others have become so overwhelming popular. In a modern society with infinite freedom and responsibility, no-one has anything to give them any meaning in life.
Anyway brb to play Factorio for the next 12 hours. -

If you can somehow "prove" any particular "meaning of life", I'd love to hear it.
Jordan Peterson is overwhelmingly popular compared to who? Pewdiepie is overwhelmingly popular. The Superbowl is overwhelmingly popular. Imagine fucking Dragons are overwhelmingly popular. Jordan Peterson is tepid mate.
"infinite freedoms and responsibilities" is a big blob of nothing. Doesn't mean a thing.
Most people have meaning in their life. Family, friends, a career they enjoy, a hobby, travelling, kids, grandkids, their car, their garden. Too many things to list really. Right-wing doomers in America want to propagate the idea that life is suffering to drag disenfranchised people into their hate-vortex.
There's so many things that give life meaning and Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro aren't top of most people's lists. -

Who the fuck is Jordan Peterson?
I know who he is, but barely.
Anyway, he's irrelevant to the topic at hand.
And how the fuck did politics come into this?
You're weird.
Anyway, regarding the issue of grounding meaning in terms of universal elements, even people with families, kids, and super neato cool jobs. They all experience moments of nihilistic confusion.
And the very fact that one can experience such a thing is incontrovertible proof that "meaning" is entirely ephemeral. -

Qhost brought him up and introduced the politics, I was replying to Qhost. -

That's the thing... He didn't introduce politics.
You did.
I'm starting to think you were just triggered by seeing Jordan Peterson's name merely being mentioned.
I'll toss you a life pro tip here...
Wisdom's source is irrelevant.
Hitler probably even at one point said that doing good deeds is a good thing.
Would knowing of such an exclamation make you opposed towards doing good deeds? -

Nah he bought it up and I'm not "triggered" by the words of a stranger on the internet.
I'm not really sure what position you're attempting to assign me in this discussion. Good things can come from bad places but the bad places probably aren't the best places to look, as a rule. -

I don't assign positions.
Or, at least, I try not to.
I just think this all started because of the assumed source for Qhost's post.
He (or she, I suppose... I don't know Qhost from Adam), simply stated that an excess of freedom is a probable explanation for why most people lack meaning in their lives.
That particular sentiment, in and of itself, does not seem that unreasonable to me.
All politics aside, how does anyone ground such and ethereal concept as "meaning" into such a tangible thing as "experience"...? -

I'm not even trying to be snarky or anything. I just want to know how other people accomplish this and feel satisfied as a result.
The whole concept of "purpose" is not faulty as far as I'm concerned. You're right that that's what should ultimately drive us all...
But it is, at the end of the day, transient. "It too, shall pass"... As they say. -

I've had an empty spot inside me my whole life I've been trying to fill. I'm hoping that family and respite from the world (i.e. buying a piece of propertu in a rural area) will make me feel better but these things arent around until next year. In the meantime I just have an opiate addiction and a preggers bm. I keep buying vehicles and she says Im going through my 5th midlife crisis since shes known me. She doesnt even like me she just knows there is a great person inside me, so do I which is part of the reason why I feel so unfulfilled all the time
