ie, your bike is old, have small piston and low compression.
it definitely have smaller horsepower than modern bike with the same engine capacity.
edit : higher octane = slower burning. -

so what are the modern, advanced engine feature it has. does it comes with variable valve timing and lift ? spark advance ? advanced programmed fuel injection ? direct fuel injections ? AI controlled air/fuel ratio depending on engine load ?
