I thought I paid that shit every time I bought something at the store and all those hundreds of dollars they take off every paycheck that says "taxes"

I dunno how it works in Cucknadia, but in the US, in the state where I live, there is no state income tax, state sales tax is about 6%, and my federal taxes get deducted from my paycheck every week. But the deduction is an estimate, they don’t know precisely how much money I’m going to make by the end of the year, so when they say “file your taxes” what that means is you fill out a form that balances how much you owed for that tax year against how much was actually deducted from your paychecks. If you ended up paying too much, you get a refund. If you didn’t deduct enough, you owe them more money.
The basics are pretty simple to understand. It gets complicated if you have to itemize shit.
And then of course there’s property tax, but you’ll never have to worry about that because you will never own property -
