Surgeons and nurses performing clean surgery wear disposable face masks. The purpose of face masks is thought to be two-fold: to prevent the passage of germs from the surgeon's nose and mouth into the patient's wound and to protect the surgeon's face from sprays and splashes from the patient.

"Despite clear evidence that facemasks act to protect the theatre staff from macroscopic facial contamination, there are studies to suggest that they fail to protect surgeons from potentially hazardous sub-micrometre contaminants. This corresponds roughly to the size range of infectious bacteria while viruses are even smaller. Therefore, the protection that masks confer in the form of macroscopic facial contamination may not necessarily extend towards any microscopic infectious agents present within that contamination.

Proponents of the surgical facemask may argue that even if they fail to completely negate the risks of infection they are likely to reduce exposure in a dose-dependent manner. While this field has not been extensively investigated, preliminary work suggests that facemasks fail to confer any degree of protection from infection due to streptococcal and staphylococcal bacterial species or hepatitis B virus Furthermore, a facemask splash may promote a false sense of security, as surgeons may be less likely to report these as an occupational exposure to bodily fluid compared to frank facial contamination."

Studies have found that most everyone wearing a seat belt when they drive head first into a semi, die. Studies conclude seat belts are entirely ineffective.

Speculum, you do realize that your own quotes have stipulations? You really suck at this, and I’m not playing your stupidity game.

    Have a nice day.

The truth. Run away!! Run away!!

As recently as 2010, the US National Academy of Sciences declared that, in the community setting, “face masks are not designed or certified to protect the wearer from exposure to respiratory hazards.”

See this is why I don’t discuss crap with you. You aren’t even discussing PPE, you’re discussing surgical masks which were never made to protect the wearer. The fact that they stop splatter is a plus.

The facemask has been used in surgical settings for over a hundred years;2 first described in 1897, at its inception, it consisted merely of a single layer of gauze to cover the mouth,3 and its primary function was to protect the patient from contamination and surgical site infection.

You obviously don't know the difference between a function and a fact. Like when you leave your tooth under your pillow for the Tooth Fairy, or leave cookies and milk in the kitchen for Santa, that's a function. And when masks offer zero protection from transmission of a virus, that's a fact. A function doesn't mean shit, when compared to a fact.

Not really. I just thought that was a weird quote. Particularly the mask part. It was really ambiguous, and, well, not a fact.

When you see someone driving down the road by themselves with their windows up and wearing a mask do you wonder if they lay alone in bed wearing a condom?

I thought everyone walks around with a condom hanging from their dick just in case. You can never be too careful.

They're saying, if you are unhealthy, wear it. But these clowns are making even the healthy people wear them, for pathetic power and mindless control.
