As bad he was, 15 years after him democracy brought Germany Hitler. And now they have Merkel.

If the revolutionaries of 1918 could have seen what 2018 Germany looked like, I imagine they would have kept the Kaiser.

The Weimar Republic was doomed to fail by the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. When it began to crumble Many in England and France gave clandestine assistance to the rise National Socialist German Workers Party after the crash of 29.

Listen, are you thick? There wouldn't have been a Weimar Republic had the monarchy not been overthrown.

The commies? They were all jedi, the 20th Century was the jedi century. I'm pretty sure Rosa Luxembourg and the like would be cool with how things turned out.

The general populace who wanted to get rid of the Kaiser but who were not all communists (though the communist contribution can't be denied).

Back when I was an edgy communist teenager Rosa Luxembourg was my favourite revolutionary. I remember printing out some of her writings and stapling them a4 pages together to take with me on the plane to read. I also remember being slightly worried that some customs agent would see it in the US and cause trouble, which just goes to show how naiive I was - I thought extreme leftism was actually subversive.

Strictly speaking Karl, Max, and Paul Warburg all had a big hand in crafting the terms of the treaty. They were of German jedi decent. But more importantly they were all the heads of the central banks of Germany, the UK, and the US.

It's worth noting that the Allied blockade of Germany - which was a war crime that caused high civilian due to "excess morality" (read: starvation) went on for some 7 months after the war ended. This very much weakened their resolve at Versailles.

We are holding all our means of coercion in full operation or in immediate readiness for use. We are enforcing the blockade with vigor. We have strong armies ready to advance at the shortest notice. Germany is very near starvation. The evidence I have received from the officers sent by the War Office all over Germany shows first of all, the great privations which the German people are suffering, and secondly, the great danger of a collapse of the entire structure of German social and national life under the pressure of hunger and malnutrition. Now is therefore the moment to settle.

There was an an agreement made by opposing sides to stop fighting for a certain time called an armistice. The war didn't end until the treaty was signed. When the treaty was signed the blockade ceased. So you were saying...

P.S. A naval blockade of shipping lanes in a time of war is not a war crime.

So the first world war ended in 1919? Fascinating. There's a lot of monuments in a lot of countries that are going to need modification. In-fact practically all of them. Even the first sentence of the WWI article on wikipedia get's this wrong, but you know what they're like. But shit, encyclopaedia brittanica even fucked it up.

The way it was conducted was in direct violation of the Paris Declaration Respecting Maritime law, 1856.

Article 1. A blockade must not extend beyond the ports and coasts belonging to or occupied by the enemy.

That would be a treaty violation not a war crime.

I'll concede that, but then there's the 1907 Hague convention. At what point do things become war crimes to you?

When you systematically and brutally waste human life without regard to it's bearing on victory or defeat would be a good place to start. Starving an enemy out is a time honored tactic in warfare dating back beyond the Bronze Age. It is not a war crime. They didn't lift the blockade or remove all the units from the front until the treaty was signed because there was an armistices. An armistices is not the end of war. It is merely both sides agreeing to cease attacking until it can be determined if there is a path to peace through treaty negotiations.
