Whats wrong with my motorcycle

  1. #1
I've got a 1976 Yamaha dirt/road bike and the clutch won't work. It pulls a little lever on the engine block but it doesn't put it in neutral. It was working the last time I started it up but now it quit. I've got a book for it but even if I took it apart I wouldn't be able to tell what is wrong with it. Any tips or suggestions?

it's 40 years old...the tranny is toast. a bike tranny is so complicated that for you to be asking this you're better off not dealing with it - buy a new or working motor/trans assembly off ebay and replace the bad one...if you can - go to a yamaha-specific site and ask -regardless, don't expect the fix to be simple

things from 40 years ago cant be complicated. they dont have computers back then and things that cpuldnt be fathomed by human brains dont/cant exist back then.

you just need some to take them apart and common sense will tell you how they are suppposed to work / be fixed.

youve obviously never tried taking apart anything related to a motorcycle transmission. no...a manual motorcycle tranny isnt as complicated as a modern automatic 10-speed, but there is no common sense involved when it comes to certain specs, torque settings, certain ways to re-torgue or un-torque parts before removing them, etc, etc.

for example, on my bike there is a component that needs to be torqued to a certain degree by hand (with a special tool) before surrounding components are assembled.

no, theres no common sense involved. either you have a manual or its not getting done properly
