Poll: Did your parents hit you as a child?
- Yes
- No
Did your parents hit you as a child? Do you think being violent towards children is a form of parenting?
-
2020-06-29 at 2:50 PM UTCStudies show that it doesn't work and only causes resentment in the child. These people are likely to become manipulative in order to avoid further violence, a trait which carries over into adulthood in people who are either/both physically and emotionally abused.
Hitting your kids is some retarded shit and just a way for shitty parents to vent their frustrations because they don't have the parenting skills to control their children in any other way. -

Studies are usually biased and/or too small a study group to be valid.
Violence towards offspring to teach them right from wrong has worked for millions of years across all nurturing species.
It's only the last 30 or 40yrs humans have "stepped back" from it and look how society and the young have behaved since...lolol -

This 'new generation' shit talk is so fucking dumb and can be traced back literally thousands of years. There are ancient Sumerian tablets talking about how kids are shit and don't respect their elders.
And yeah lmao, 'studies are too small'. Shut the fuck up.

Of course, but there are "shades" of disrespect like anything. You probably don't understand what that means...the slow change of shade from generation to generation took a giant pantone leap in the last 40yrs.
Also it's not simply about "disrespect" it's about behavior too, and the millenials mindset of general entitlement rather than a desire to contribute to society. -

Just more excuses for the same cyclic bullshit. -

2020-06-29 at 7:50 PM UTCI definitely got spanked as a kid which is typically not lumped in with all the other forms of corporal punishment. I'm honestly not even sure if it counts as "being hit" really - I'd feel awkward answering yes to this, as "hit" feels like it has way heavier connotations. My parents did employ that form of corporal punishment on rare occasions though, yes. Not sure how much if any damage it did to me long term. Part of me thinks they probably should have beat me way harder to be honest, but I'm the kind of person who thinks getting addicted to heroin would be a good idea because it'd give me a compulsive reason to go out and do shit/make money. I can't be trusted.

2020-06-29 at 7:52 PM UTCCorporal punishment does less long term damage than time outs or "talks" do.
"Billy it's not ok that you stole the neighbors car, it's wrong. I'm going to have to send you to your room for 2hrs to think about what you did". -

Ignoring the low hanging uncle rape fruit, yes. But I think violence is particularly nasty. I mean, if you're being violent towards your kids you're probably already emotionally abusive as well. And violence + sexual abuse I assume have some sort of link. Sure seems that way to me.
Personally my parents were fantastic and basically angels. My dad threw a phone at me once and immediately apologized. I also fist fought him twice at like 15/16. Never any sort of aggression otherwise. They seldom even raise their voices. Arguments as a teenager mostly consisted of 1-3 hour talks in the garage and some hugs.
No matter what I know I can always count on my family for anything. I feel bad for white people because most of them don't have the love and support that Mexicans have. -
2020-06-29 at 7:58 PM UTCStudies are garbage. My dad and grandpa both spanked the shit out of me if i was being a little fucker and deserved it. It showed me discipline and respect. Kids today are fucking pansies and ive even read of stories of kids calling the cops on parents that smack them and the parents got hauled off to jail...bunch of liberal faggots writing these laws that you can't touch your own kids

You've also been divorced twice and are living in a country all by yourself with no family or friends around you.
You pay taxes and don't commit crimes. That's your measure of success? You're a bigot who admittedly does not care about others and will not even put on a mask to save his elderly neighbors. I'd hardly say you turned out fine. You're a self entitled dick. -
