on the whole they started backing things like gay causes because they felt like they'd lose a chunk of their base if they didn't. I've seen a fair few prominent 'conservatives' giving Trump a pat on the back for pressuring several African countries into decriminalising sodomy... if they're not willing to conserve their traditional values and beliefs, calling themselves 'conservatives' seems like a misnomer -

Right... They do so after the left does it. That isn't progressive. That's called lagging behind.
The point isnt that they never change. It's that they refuse to do so until the tides have turned. Conservatives have been on the wrong side of history time and time again. -
