Fucking lol…so dumb.
By the time the PS5 is released you don't think this SSD technology will have found it's way to PCs?
And as mentioned all it achieves is faster streaming…it doesn't improve the game engine because again it's just a storage device.
it isnt dumb nor lol just to you. plenty of gamers will buy it and it will fucking sell in the tons of millions of units. -
2020-05-14 at 11:38 PM UTCgame engines nowadays are based on cloud look at google stradia or google in general.

But seriously why does it matter? I mean I play pc games most of my lyfe but I've played console and I like that too but theres different games and its just a differen experience. apples and organges to each their own you know?
Don't see why you always have to act like an angry nerd constantly. -
2020-05-15 at 12:31 AM UTCbut really fam, I like consoles I owned a ps2 and few games, I had resident evil whatever the one that takes place in spain. R-type which was a sick game. And some other stuff but I sold it all for drugs because I didn't really play it much. This was like 13 years ago.
but the most addicting/fun games for me have always been pc games. Like starcraft, diablo, nox, tfc, quake ect..
But I'm really retro and hip so.. thats just how it goes with me..
this was one of my favorite online games, so badass

There's nothing particularly special about their 'new' SSD compared to modern PCIe models, though I wonder how they'll keep the cost down enough to put in consoles considering how expensive high-speed PCIe SSDs still are.
The point is that they're trying to change the processing paradigm of storage > RAM > compute, more or less trying to eliminate any bottlenecks between storage and compute so that developers don't need to optimise resources.
It's amusing that they think 800GB will be enough for standard usage, because with the new paradigm they're quite directly encouraging developers NOT to optimise and compress, leading to significantly more storage space used -
2020-05-15 at 1:32 AM UTCI just checked and a 4x 1TB PCIE SSD runs about $350-400 AUD retail, even at cost price that's a significant price bump

My next rig gonna have a M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD. Dont really need it but its what people put these days I guess so it is what it is. Running a 10yr old rig atm and its still kicking but I figure might as well upgrade anyway. -
2020-05-15 at 1:45 AM UTCyeah looking at them it made me consider adding an M2 (I have 2 standard cheapish SATA SSDs) just for the OS

I didnt even look at them. Over the last 10 years I have been replacing graphics cards and hard drives (running ssd now, huge upgrade from hdd), and also had to replace some ram at some point. I don't even play games or use any power hungry apps, but I figure that at 10 yrs old the liquid cooling or cpu or motherboard might shit the bed soon. Rather not have to use a laptop at home.
Looking at upgrading/replacing my current projector (that I use as a monitor). Then I can move the old pc and projector into the living room for the lols. -

Ironically your favorite defense mechanism when someone challenges your delusions is to tell them they're wrong because you've been shitposting for so long -

No, the funny thing is you believe whatever they tell you...even though they are PROMOTING THEIR PRODUCT...without doing research yourself and/or understanding a STATIC console can never outperform PC with the latest and ever evolving technology.
A console is obsolete technology on launch day...it's just a cheaper dumbed down PC. -

Lol what?...the code still needs to be ON THE DRIVE to load...RDR2 is over 200gb for example...it would still be 200gb regardless of if assets are loaded once or 1000 times...it needs to be on there to load the one time...or are you suggesting once it's loaded it will delete the data..and if so where is the data it loaded once stored?? in memory?...streamed over the cloud which is wholly unreliable and would kill your bandwidth? Lol...
Fucking lol, you clearly have no clue.
If current gen games can top 200gb...I guarantee next gen ones will top 400gb...which means you'll get 2 games on that PS5 SSD...or have to use SLOWER and REGULAR speed external media.
So dumbbbbbb, get a clue. -
2020-05-15 at 3:06 PM UTC"Revealed by Mark Cerny in a live stream, the PS5 is a quality-sounding beast powered by eight Zen-2 processing cores, just over 10 teraflops graphical wizardry, and 16GB of GDDR6 RAM - it's basically a very good gaming PC"
16GB of ram...so you are going to load between 200-400gb of game data ONCE into 16gb or ram huh.
I see math isn't your thing either... -
2020-05-15 at 3:56 PM UTCPushing a paradigm of lazy loading off a disk because it's fast is kind of dumb too in an era where ram is cheap as dirt. I mean less loading time is great and all, but beyond that you could put a cheaper drive in and more ram, and assuming you can reasonably intelligently stream assets you're going to need into ram you have a machine that can perform as well in everything except cold boot and costs significantly less.
