I had a look at it (see pic below), no obvious component fails...tested for voltages and the regulators were not getting or giving power...the other problem is the main board could have took out the display board too...I couldn't be arsed spending hours troubleshooting it and waiting on parts etc when a new better one was $248 (plus tax) at Walmart. Laziness and convenience won the day.

tvs are really cheap there.

I'd never heard of TCL but apparently this is the best selling 50" TV on Amazon and has good reviews (Chinese of course).
I got this one because it was the only 50" one my local Wallyworld had in stock...I said to the assistant "I want to buy a TV"..she said "which one"...I said..."well looking at the shelf you only have 1..." -
2020-05-05 at 2:55 PM UTCpretty sure if I posted a photo of what I was looking at right now, it might be breaking some law.

I spent ages looking at a TV once, it wouldn't even turn on, eventually I googled and realised the problem was software, so all I had to do was flash a new firmware with a USB. -

That's a poor design...it should give you a "new firmware available" message, not just not turn on!
