There's a difference between fuckups like "started a solid business that didn't go well but didn't borrow lots of money" and "bankrupted myself with a loan to start a sports bar" or the more common one here "became a drug addict and went to prison".

Everyone has a lifetime of experience...their own lifetime of experience. It's a dumb saying usually used by people who think their experiences are somehow unique and special.
The obvious observation is you can't measure your experiences against others as you don't really know what others have dealt with.
Having a kid when you are 15 doesn't mean you are more worldly wise...it means you're a dumb fuck etc.
