Tongue definitely meets cheek somewhere around the last line, if not exactly there, but the point remains that I'm not just being a doomer about this. I may have indulged in a bit of hyperbole, but less than you're implying. 🤷♀️
Gabs response is a huge positive step, because they have done so much and shown you can just build your own shit.
You also need to keep things in perspective. A few private companies, like AWS, Twitter and Facebook have denied people service.
The great thing about private corporation censorship compared with government censorship is that you can just side step it. The internet would be a better place without those companies, anyway.
TL;DR - None of the attempts to silence people have really worked. Alternatives exist, and it's up to us to use them. If the Eastern Bloc couldn't stop the spread of dissent pre-internet, there's no way the western world can in 2021. -
